OneRepublic release new single 'Rescue Me'

Publish date: 2024-06-07

OneRepublic are back with a bang with their sensational new song ‘Rescue Me’.

Written and produced by Ryan Tedder and Brent Kutzle, and co-produced by Tyler Spry, the track is an infectious offering with the band’s trademark stamp all over it. The song pulls you in immediately with a catchy guitar hook as Ryan asks “Would you rescue me? / Would you get my back? / Would you take my call when I start to crack?”

The production intensifies later on with added strings, drums, and guitar, building towards the anthemic and danceable chorus. There’s no doubt that this is one of our favourite releases from OneRepublic to date, and it comes with a concept that we can all relate to.

Of the new single, Ryan said, “’Rescue Me’ was written very quickly, 10 minutes or less almost a stream of consciousness. It was me telling Brent, our bass player and cellist, ‘I wanna write a song with a concept I had started a few years ago (called “Rescue Me”)’. He started playing this lonely sounding guitar riff and the first thing out of my mouth was the chorus as it is now.

“The concept: In every friendship there’s a give and take, but sometimes you have to wonder if the love you give is the love you’ll get.”

Alongside the track, OneRepublic have also unveiled the official video for ‘Rescue Me’. Shot in Silverton, Oregon, the visual was directed by Christian Lamb of Black Dog Films (who also directed Michael Bublé’s NBC Special “bublé!,” Beyonce’s Formation tour and Childish Gambino’s This Is America Tour). The video was executive produced by Julia Ochsenreiter and produced by Holly Harding with cinematography by Mack Fisher and choreography by Sherrie Silver.

Whilst OneRepublic make a short cameo in the visual, the focus is on a group of kids which includes Cody Bingham from Dancing with the Stars: Juniors. The visual sees a group of masked youths chasing a child through a forest and out onto the street. Instead of using his fists, the child fights back through the medium of dance.

‘Rescue Me’ is the first single from OneRepublic since ‘Connection’ which was released last year. Earlier this year, they featured on Galantis’ latest release, ‘Bones’. The band will be performing ‘Rescue Me’ for the first time on The Ellen Show today.
